Dark spots, Melasma and general uneven skin tone are all forms of hyperpigmentation. The melanin in our skin, that’s the pigment that gives us our natural skin tone has been over produced and left us with a darker mark or patch. There are a few reasons skin hyper pigments; UV exposure is the top one, along with inflammation or injury – think the mark left behind after a breakout and hormonal imbalances such as with pregnancy. Ideally, we want to isolate and reduce the trigger but using pigment brightening actives such as Hexylresorcinol, Niacinamide and Vitamin C daily can help fade the marks along with defending from the top trigger – UV radiation with SPF.
